Introduction

The Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (Daresbury SIC) has been home to the world-renowned  Daresbury Laboratory for over 40 years. Now, with the addition of the  Cockcroft Institute and the  Daresbury Innovation Centre and an influx of national and international high-tech companies, it is rapidly developing its reputation for both scientific and entrepreneurial excellence.

Formed as part of a government initiative to maximise the effects of public investment on business-science collaborations, the campus is the shared vision of six key stakeholders, including the regional development agency and local universities.

There are 100 companies based in the Daresbury Innovation Centre and approximately 400 staff at the Daresbury Laboratory, supporting the work of thousands of scientists and engineers around the world.

Each year the Campus carries out a survey of tenant companies to provide a measure of performance - both of the companies themselves and of the Campus in its mission to assist them.

This leaflet highlights some of the key findings from the 2008 survey which reports on the financial year 2007-2008, some of which are outlined below:

  • 67% Increase in Sales Totalling £14.9m
  • 97 New Jobs in Science & Innovation
  • 73% of Companies Collaborate

Driving recovery and growth in the UK

Daresbury SIC has been used as one of the case studies in the "Driving Recovery and Growth in the UK economy" report commissioned by Lord Sainsbury. The Campus was held up as a great example of a very powerful interactive network that helps drive knowledge between companies and between companies and the research base of local Universities and STFC.
