Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus is an internationally
recognised location for hi-tech businesses and leading-edge
science. Through its stakeholders, Daresbury SIC is connected to a
global network of scientists and innovators.
Businesses are drawn to the Campus through the Daresbury
SIC Network;
a membership community of hi-tech SMEs, multi-national corporations
and business support organisations.
Offering specialist advice and support sessions through the access2experts
programme and keeps all network members informed of Campus
initiatives through its online News service. This brochure

Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus will be

enterprise.
Successful collaborations through the Campus will help the
world-class science stimulate prosperous knowledge-based businesses

The Future
The next phase of development is the plan to build a grow-on
facility for larger and more established companies. This is the
first step in an ambitious 30 year masterplan being progressed to expand
across a 300 ha site creating a 'technology village' and a home to
some 10,000-15,000 people working in science and technology.

Daresbury Innovation
Centre

The Daresbury Innovation Centre is situated at the heart of the
Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (Daresbury SIC).
Having rapidly become a magnet for world class science and
innovation, this stunningly designed building provides a superb
location for hi-tech SMEs and forms a focal point of the powerful
Daresbury SIC network and offers access
to seminars and events.

Vanguard House
 |
Due for completion in 2011, Vanguard House will occupy a key
location on the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus which is at
the heart of the Government's science and innovation strategy.
Established in 2006, Daresbury is one of two national science and
innovation campuses.
Vanguard House is a major new 3,300 sq m (36,000 sq ft) facility
providing office, laboratory and workshop space in units between 94
sq m - 231 sq m (1,000 sq ft - 2,450 sq ft).

Home to the Daresbury Innovation Centre and 100 high-tech SMEs,
the Campus represents a
fundamentally new approach to driving UK competitiveness in global
science and innovation.
Each year the Campus carries out a survey of tenant companies to
provide a measure of performance - both of the companies themselves
and of the Campus in its mission to assist them.
This leaflet
highlights some of the key results from the 2009 survey, which
reports on the financial year 2008-9.

Now lauded as a major driver of the regional economy, Daresbury
SIC was established to help drive regional and national
competitiveness in science and innovation. It is one
of only two Government-funded science and innovation campuses in
the UK and has an ambitious masterplan for the Campus and
surrounding area.

Campus
Conference Facilities

The Campus provides a spacious and attractive location
to stage that important business meeting or conference.
The Campus' conference facilities are located in three adjacent
buildings at the centre of the Campus. Each building offers a
comprehensive range of facilities and is easily accessible from
each of the other venues. There is ample car parking.
There are over 30 rooms available on Campus, a key selection of
which is shown here. Thisbrochure also
shows the various services that are on offer.

Technology Access Centre (ITAC)
Accelerator Science
& Technology
 |
Daresbury SIC has been identified by STFC as its preferred site
for major new accelerator R&D projects, building on the
previous success of the SRS and more recently the highly innovative
ALICE programme.
STFC manages a number of leading edge facilities which are of
key importance to the Accelerator Science and Technology sector. It
provides this capability through its large scientific facilities at
Daresbury and its sister campus at Harwell in Oxfordshire (Harwell
SIC).

Advanced
Engineering & Instrumentation
 |
The critical mass of expertise on Campus acts as a magnet to
organisations active in the sector, drawn to Daresbury SIC by its
vast pool of knowledge and collaborative research and development
opportunities. Around one fifth of all Campus companies are active
in the advanced
engineering sector with the sector also well represented in the
wider network.

Aerospace &
Automotive
 |
World-class, large scale research facilities, managed by STFC, are
regularly accessed by the automotive
and aerospace sectors through Daresbury Laboratory. One of
STFC's leading capabilities is supercomputing, a world class
resource that enables it to carry out extremely complex aerodynamic
modelling. STFC also carries out research into areas such as engine
management systems, materials and lubrication. Further information

Biomedical
 |
The North West is home to over 200 biomedical
companies and seven multinational pharmaceutical companies. The
Campus is ideally positioned to engage with partners that are
active in meeting the requirements of the sector. The Daresbury
SIC network provides companies with
an ecosystem perfectly suited to the needs of growing biomedical

Chemicals and
Specialities
 |
Daresbury SIC is one of two national Science & Innovation
Campuses, the other being Harwell SIC. This pairing, known as the
'dipole', enables any organisation engaging with one Campus to have
access to the facilities of both. Daresbury SIC will continue to be
a key location for chemicals organisations, principally through the
Knowledge Centre for Materials Chemistry which will provide a
national centre of expertise to drive innovative, multi
disciplinary research and knowledge transfer for companies of all

Digital / ICT
 |
Daresbury SIC occupies a powerful position in both the
supercomputing and digital and creative industries. As a leading UK
supercomputing facility it offers high performance and distributed
computing and data services, suitable for small and large

Energy

Micro and Nano
Technology

STFC's Micro
and Nano Technology Centre (MNTC) is the
ideal partner for commercial and academic R&D, offering
technical expertise and proof of concept production of Micro and
Nano Technology based devices and products. The Centre has
facilities both at the
Daresbury and Harwell Science and Innovation Campuses. More
