Schools
Just as Daresbury SIC is helping to build
the UK's knowledge economy, the organisations within it are helping
to inform and engage the public with advances in science and
technology and inspire pupils to become the next generation of
scientists and engineers.
Activities for school pupils include work experience,
masterclasses, lectures and tours. Each year, the particle
physics masterclass offers pupils from the region an insight into
the fundamental particles that shape the universe. Talks from
staff at the Daresbury Laboratory and Cockcroft Institute
illustrate the science of such particles, the way that studying
them drives technological innovation, and the spin-offs that have
arisen, such as the world wide web.
Activities for the public include free monthly talks and
discussions on the latest science and technology, visits, science
festivals and open days. Monthly talks are given to a packed
lecture theatre and have explored the way in which the campus is
supporting the development of innovative new products, as well as
the exciting advances in a very wide range of inspirational science
and technology.
Campus activities for the public, teachers and schools often
involve local and regional partners from the education, outreach
and professional sectors to maximise impact and ensure effective
delivery.
