Prototyping
In partnership with high-tech
industry in the UK and elsewhere, Daresbury SIC is working towards
developing new technologies for advanced particle accelerators,
thereby ensuring that British companies are able to supply major
components for accelerators and accelerating systems of all kinds
throughout the world.
In addition to this the Campus draws project teams together to
work on converting scientific concepts into marketable products,
and has built up considerable experience in prototyping to enable
this. This can lead to both the creation of spin-out
businesses and to attracting businesses to locate on campus in
order to research, develop and market the resulting products.
One example of this is CXR Ltd (Instrumentation), the research
subsidiary of Rapiscan Systems - manufacturers of airport security
scanners, whose initial interaction with the Daresbury Laboratory
was for cleaning of Ultra High Vacuum Components with
SuperClean. The Cockcroft Institute is also initiating
interactions with Rapiscan Systems for compact imaging technologies
towards health and security applications using accelerator, laser,
x-ray and THz technologies.
