Daresbury’s expertise in the area of detector technology offers a potentially huge benefit to a broad spectrum of hi-tech industries, and is a major strength of the campus.  It has world class expertise in designing and making particle physics detectors such as the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS).

STFC staff at Daresbury SIC designed and built the word’s fastest 2D x-ray detector - the Rapid System. It is used on the synchrotron radiation system and other synchrotrons worldwide.

Real opportunities also exist in the semi conductor industry, where Daresbury’s detector expertise can be applied to researching the efficiency of silicon devices.
