Accelerator science, driven by its motivation to reach highest energies, smallest distance and fastest time scales using charged  and neutral particles, laser, radio-frequency and other microwave technology, has driven the development of Daresbury’s expertise in areas with potentially wide scale industrial application, such as: superconducting microwave technology, ultrafast lasers and ultrafast switching, x-ray detectors, high resolution x-ray imaging, novel medical imaging and  terahertz technology, millimetre wave technology and optics and optronics.
