University of Liverpool

Companies at the Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus have special access to world-class scientific expertise through a strategic partnership with the University of Liverpool.

The university has an extensive portfolio of international quality research projects, currently worth over £101 million per annum and attracts commissions from a wide range of national and international organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

In 2005/6 the university delivered on over 2,000 contracts for external organisations and engaged in over 280 projects to assist locally based small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) through regional regeneration.

As a partner in the Cockcroft Institute (National Centre for Accelerator Science), the 4th Generation Light Source (4GLS) and Superstem (the Super Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope), the University of Liverpool is also a major contributor to the existing Daresbury knowledge base.

A recent £8.2 million investment into the university’s Centre for Materials Discovery will help SMEs to streamline the development of new materials and accelerate their growth. An additional £2.3 million  has been invested in the NanoCentral project to help facilitate the uptake and commercialisation of nano-materials.

The Faculty of Engineering has a five star Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) rating and is currently investing £36 million into modernising its infrastructure and research facilities. The faculty has always had a strong industrial focus and has links with many of the UK’s biggest engineering companies.

Helathcare accounts for almost 50% of the research carried out at the University of Liverpool. Our expertise is underpinned by a unique portfolio of life-sciences, including veterinary science and the internationally renowned Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. We are also currently investing £20 million into building the UK’s new centre of excellence in infectious diseases – The Biomedical Research Centre.

Companies can access the world-class expertise of the University of Liverpool through licence agreements, collaborative or contract research facilities, high quality graduate placements and the award winning Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
