Long-term Objectives

In line with the mission statement for Daresbury SIC, the campus will look to develop along five key themes:

  • Location of international-scale large scientific facilities (e.g. Fourth Generation Light Source) through public or private investment
  • Establishment of further national scientific research institutes along the lines of the
    Cockcroft Institute
  • On-going development of multi-user accommodation for science and technology-focused SMEs and strategic units of multi-national corporations
  • Provision of high quality buildings for multi-national corporations to establish key activities
  • Establishment of training and resource centres for core science and technology skills

Alongside these, support facilities will be developed to deliver a high quality working environment. These are likely to include, amongst other things, a conference centre, restaurants, retail facilities, a hotel and sports facilities.

It is expected that the workforce would grow from the 700 people currently based here to over 5000 people in the next 10-15 years. In this way it will provide a wide variety of high skills jobs and training opportunities in science and technology for the Northwest region, and for the UK as a whole.

Through the physical co-location of scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs, it will become a major driving force in delivering the government’s objective of enhanced business innovation and commercial success from science.

Through all of this Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus will be a knowledge centre recognised not only nationally, but also internationally.
