Business Support
Daresbury SIC operates a Business Support Fund for all companies on the campus. Jointly funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), it provides targeted, low level funding to enable companies to carry out business critical work by accessing high quality external expertise.
Examples of this include procurement of market research studies, regulatory approval expertise, intellectual property (IP) legal advice and leadership mentoring. Much of this external expertise comes from within the wider Daresbury SIC network.
Examples of the types of research and development funding include:
- Research & Development Tax Credits
These are company tax relief aimed at helping reduce a company tax bill, or to provide a cash sum for smaller companies. Companies spending a least £10,000 on R&D activities are eligible for deduction of up to 150% on qualifying R&D expenditure when calculating taxable profits.
- Grant for Research and Development (GRAND)
Formerly SMART awards, GRAND funding is available to SMEs to encourage R&D activities into technologically innovative products and processes. Between £20,000 and £500,000 funding is available over 12-36 months.
Our Business Development Manager is happy to meet with any new company moving onto the campus to discuss their business strategy and identify any critical requirements for external support. Business support is typically in the region of a few thousand pounds and is realised through a series of projects which may take a few months to complete.
To date we have completed around 40 projects which have helped to support over 25 businesses on the campus.
