Shadow Business Minister meets local business leaders at policy summit

19th May 2009

l-R John Leake, Mark Prisk MP, George Baxter, Colin Whitehouse

As part of a series of regional policy discussions, Mark Prisk MP, Shadow Business Minister, met with local business leaders at Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus to listen and discuss current issues facing small hi-tech businesses yesterday.

Topics included: access to funding, knowledge sharing, exporting and building links with blue chip organisations. Afterwards he also met with Campus stakeholders and representatives.

Speaking after the event, Mark Prisk said:

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy and so it was inspiring to meet such a variety of cutting edge technology businesses.

Daresbury is clearly an excellent centre for both achieving technology transfer and for enabling
entrepreneurs to grow and prosper.”

Speaking after the event, John Leake, General Manager of Daresbury SIC, said:

“We are delighted that Mark Prisk has shown a keen interest in the exciting story here at Daresbury SIC.  The visit has provided a great opportunity for the Campus and its tenant companies to discuss the key issues facing hi-tech businesses in today’s economic climate.  We look forward to providing further targeted support to the rapidly growing hi-tech community at Daresbury and continuing to build a critical mass of expertise here.”

Clive Marshall of Link Information Technology Ltd said:

“We welcome this opportunity to discuss with Mark Prisk how the use of new and exciting technologies and methodologies, developed by the growing number of businesses on the Daresbury Campus, can be exploited by larger companies to promote a rapid return to general economic growth.  During this challenging period, the focus of attention is often upon large enterprises – however I believe it is small businesses which, by their very nature must demonstrate agility to grow market share, that can provide superb examples of technical excellence to larger businesses.”
