Digital/ICT
Daresbury SIC occupies a powerful position in UK supercomputing and in high performance and distributed computing & data services. The Computational Science & Engineering Department (CSED) at Daresbury SIC provides world-class expertise and support for the UK theoretical and computational science communities in both academia and industry, and is one of the world's leading players in the modelling and design of microfluidic devices.
This critical mass of expertise is proving to be a magnet not only for Digital/ICT companies interacting with the campus, but for a broader spectrum of companies active in advanced engineering & instrumentation, healthcare and automotive & aeronautical engineering, all requiring Daresbury SIC’s world class modelling and simulation capabilities.
Here, over 60 computational scientists are developing high-performance applications in core areas of quantum chemistry, molecular simulation, solid-state physics, materials simulation, engineering and environmental simulations.
Benefiting from HPCx the largest academic high end computing (HEC) facility in Europe and the 2nd largest in the world, these scientists, through the DAComS service offer the unique capability to carry out advanced simulation in science and engineering, providing unbeatable combination of:
- Access to leading edge computational facilities and evaluation of cost-effective and novel computing technologies.
- Exploitation of a comprehensive suite of community and commercial science and engineering simulation codes in materials, life-science, engineering and environmental modelling applications.
- Harnessing of the expertise of the largest Computational Science and Engineering group in the UK to deliver industrial solutions.
