SME Case Study

The following case study traces a Daresbury SIC based interaction with STFC; certain project details are withheld due to a non-disclosure agreement.

The SME, recently locating in the Daresbury Innovation Centre, had an initial concept idea based around an opportunity for a non-invasive medical diagnostic instrument.

The initial discussions between the company and STFC led to the development of an instrument concept with existing technology from space development elsewhere in STFC to be reused in the instrument.

The conceptual design was evaluated and a cost to develop the product was estimated. Funding was then sought as the project would contain previously generated technology from within STFC.

A Proof of Concept proposal to support the funding proposal was applied for from within STFC’s knowledge exchange organisation. With the funding proposal being successful a new joint venture company was formed. Currently the project to develop a new instrument is being worked upon.
