IDEAS at Daresbury' (Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Science) is the new collaboration of the Business/Management Schools of the three stakeholder universities, along with Lancaster University's Design Thinking & Innovation Laboratory, Imagination. The initiative is further supported by the Science & Technology Facilities Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Daresbury SIC.

The mission of IDEAS at Daresbury is to promote effective knowledge exchange at the interface of SMEs, large corporations, universities and strategic government funded science and will drive innovation into primarily high-tech micro businesses located within the DSIC network and related regional facilities.

Background

IDEAS at Daresbury is a partnership between the three leading Business/Management Schools of the North West -
Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster and ImaginationLancaster, Lancaster University's creative design research lab.
This is further supported by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the Northwest Regional
Development Agency (NWDA) and Daresbury Science and Innovation Council (DSIC).

The mission of IDEAS is to promote effective knowledge exchange at the interface of SMEs, large corporations,
Universities and strategic government funded science.

The IDEAS Programme

IDEAS has been awarded funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and NWDA to deliver a
programme of in-depth knowledge exchange to drive innovation into 40 regional SMEs, primarily high-tech micro
businesses located within the DSIC network and related regional facilities.

 

Eligibility

High-tech SMEs who would benefit from working with like- minded companies to develop innovative practices and
approaches to deal with business critical issues followed by bespoke support to embed this knowledge.
Criteria

  • Established SME located in the North West
  • Less than 250 employees & less than £34 m annual turnover
  • Independent Enterprise (i.e. not owned by another company or group)
  • Not received more than €200,000 of public funding in any 3 year period
